Watercolor Foundations I
Mondays 6:30-8:30pm
April 6th - May 11th
at Art & History Museum of Maitland
Dive deep into the art of watercolor! Students will develop and strengthen essential skills needed to master this versatile medium. Grow in confidence each week as we build from composition, value, and color to brushwork, texture, and layering. At every class we’ll put our skills into practice as we paint several studies. Then everything will come together in a final course project. This class is perfect for beginner to intermediate students who want to grow in both love for and proficiency with watercolor!
Watercolor Foundations II
Thursdays 10am-12pm
April 9th - May 14th
at Art & History Museum of Maitland
Ready to take your watercolor skills to the next level? Explore advanced techniques and strengthen your skills in Watercolor Foundations II. We’ll refine our eye for dynamic compositions, expand our color palettes, and enhance our skills as we paint from nature-inspired photos and still-lifes. This class is perfect for students who have taken Watercolor Foundations (or a similar equivalent).
Plein Air - Watercolor
Friday, April 24th
10am-12:30pm
at Leu Gardens in Orlando
If you’ve ever been inspired by the beauty of nature, this class is for you! I’ll guide you step by step in getting started with plein air in watercolor. First we’ll meet in the classroom to gather supplies, then we’ll take a little walk to explore our muse: the gardens! We’ll learn how to decide on a composition, what to prioritize “in the field,” and lots of skills to explore watercolor on the go! Then, we’ll head back to the classroom to put the finishing touches on our paintings!
There are so many ways to create nature-inspired art, and in this class, you’ll gain confidence by discovering what works best for you. You’ll have the opportunity to see several different plein air materials and set-ups, from pocket-sized nature notebooks to professional travel easels.
Please note: This class is accessible for all and will not require off-trail or long-distance walking. The outdoor portion of the class will last approximately 1-1.5hrs. In case of inclement weather, the class will be held indoors. Outdoor seating may be available but is not guaranteed; you are welcome to bring a camping chair if you prefer not to stand during the outdoor portion.
“Natalie Brooks is a wonderful teacher! I have taken other watercolor classes, but I learned more in one class with Natalie than I did in an entire series of classes with another teacher. Natalie has a gift for putting students at ease and for inspiring them to take risks and grow. She is patient, supportive, and encouraging. If you are hesitant about trying something new, but really want to learn how to paint, Natalie is the teacher for you. She is a warm, friendly person who shares her expertise with grace and humor. I can’t wait for my next class with her.”
Watercolor Hydrangeas
Friday, May 8th
10am-12:30pm
at Leu Gardens in Orlando
Let your creativity bloom! I’ll guide you step by step through painting a vase full of hydrangeas. We’ll practice layering, color-mixing, and softening edges. Whether you’re new to watercolor or already have experience, you’ll learn new techniques, have fun, and go home with a lovely watercolor painting!
“Natalie’s workshops were fun, informative, and empowering for a novice like me, and I came away with two pieces of art that I am proud to display in my home. Perfect for a ladies night or a date, and I look forward to the next one!”
